Because of the rising number of coronavirus cases in Italy, the entire country is in lockdown. Since people are socially distancing in preventive self-quarantine to avoid the virus from spreading, a lot of businesses are closing down and suffering severe consequences. Panic and tensions are rising all around.
However, there are some good news that have become a silver lining in these hard times. Because of the lockdown, streets of one of the biggest Italian tourist destination, Venice, are deserted. The boat traffic on the canals has dramatically dropped, which contributed to the purification of water in city canals since the sediment from the top of the water’s surface has dropped at the bottom of the sea. The water has become so clear that fish can be seen.
Dolphins and swans have also returned in their natural habitat. The quality of the air has also significantly improved since the nitrogen dioxide emissions have decreased over Italy following the COVID-19 lockdown of the country.
Over the internet people are posting pictures and videos showing the clean city, underlying how humans are responsible for ruining it in the first place. The pictures show how the absence of humans, and everything that we do, can make the world beautiful again.
